Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is composed of the Executive Board, subcommittee chairs, staff, representatives of each member organization and seven at-large members elected bi-annually. The Steering Committee meets remotely the first Monday of each month and makes decisions about what actions to support. These meetings are open to everyone, and all Steering Committee members may vote. When necessary, a leadership group made up of staff and the Executive Board makes decisions. The Executive Board is made up of two Co-Chairs, a Secretary, a Treasurer, two At-Large members, and Staff Members and meets once a month between Steering meetings.

Please join us the first Monday of the month for the next meeting of JwJ’s Steering Committee. If you would like to attend the Zoom-facilitated Steering Committee meeting, please email our Coalition Organizer, Sarah Kowaleski, and she will send you the info you need to join the meeting.

How organizations can seek support from JwJ
Organizations can request support by filling out the form below. We ask that requests be made no later than the Friday before the Steering Committee meeting. Requests should indicate what level of support is needed and a representative from your group must attend the monthly Steering Committee meeting to make the ask and answer questions. Decisions on which actions to support are made based on criteria including: impact of JwJ’s support on the campaign, impact on building JwJ and local coalitions, level of rank and file participation and leadership, and how the action fits into JwJ’s organizational priorities and capacity.

Before you complete the request form please consider the following criteria and priorities

Criteria

  • How the action fits into JwJ’s organizational priorities
  • Impact of JwJ’s support on the campaign
  • Impact on building JwJ and local coalitions
  • Amount of rank and file participation
  • Any organization is welcome to submit a request, but when requests are too numerous priority consideration is reserved for organizations that are members of the Portland Jobs with Justice coalition.

Portland Jobs with Justice gives priority to struggles involving the most vulnerable workers in our community.

  • LGBTQ people
